Artist Yvonne de Mille is giving four lantern-making workshop for community and whanau which will which culminate in the Matariki Lantern Parade with the whole community walking a star circuit through Mahara Place which will be magically lit up as dusk falls between 5.30 and 6pm on Friday 16 June.
Workshops are :
Saturday June 10 1.30 – 3.30pm
Wednesday 14 & Thursday 15 June from 3.30-5pm
Friday 16 June from 4pm – 5.30
Yvonne de Mille is an artist, tutor and kite-maker working in her community of Otaki on the Kapiti Coast. She works in a number of different media, including painting, printmaking, Installation art, fabric and other sculpture. Yvonne is also an experienced event organiser and workshop facilitator, and has trained in various art therapies, has a Certificate in The Art of Health – Taruna College, Havelock North and a Bachelor of Applied Arts – Whitireia NZ, Wellington.
Yvonne is passionate about building community and works with schools, corporations, health institutions, community groups and art groups, – making kites and running art workshops with adults and children. Yvonne has organised many kite days and festivals, including the – now annual Otaki Kite Festival – and has made kites for dignitaries, corporations, musicians and politicians including former Prime Minister David Lange.
