Miromoda organises an annual fashion design competition of which winners and runners up of three categories participate in the much acclaimed Miromoda Showcase at New Zealand Fashion Week. Director Ata Te Kanawa praises, “In our nine years’ experience, hosting our annual competition and runway show at various venues in Wellington and Hamilton, we believe the Pātaka Art & Museum venue, combined with the community involvement and spirit, Porirua is the best venue we have had the pleasure of working at. We are very pleased with the opportunity to work with Porirua City and return to the Pātaka Art & Museum. As a venue, it worked really well for everyone.”
Porirua City Events Manager Robert Baldock believes Porirua’s melting pot of ethnicities is a natural environment for finding model talent. “Miromoda provides a great pathway for the youth of Porirua to build confidence and showcase their creative talents through modelling and fashion design; as well as gaining experience coordinating hair, makeup and hospitality for such a high calibre event. We are very pleased to build on our relationship with Miromoda and welcome them back to Pātaka and Porirua to celebrate Matariki in 2017,” says Baldock
The Miromoda Fashion Design Competition and Runway Show has been running since 2009. It offers Māori fashion designers an opportunity to showcase their talent and compete for a coveted spot at New Zealand Fashion Week. Eight designers will be chosen at the Porirua event to show in Auckland. Porirua City is excited to be hosting the show with its partners; Miromoda, The Indigenous Māori Fashion Apparel Board (IMFAB), and Pātaka.
